“““编织””” (performance still), 2022
made in collaboration with Dong Longyue董龙跃
Power Station of Art, Shanghai, China
Through performative imagery, “““weaving”””delves into the embodiment of writing and the spatial aspects of language. Amiko Li and Dong Longyue explore the concept of writing with the body through poetry, game, sign language, and more. These attempts reimagine and engage with the possibilities and responses of writing, placing individual experiences ahead of linguistic constructs to challenge binary oppositions. Hidden stitches on the back of a knitted sweater and transitions from yarn to floral rope, are symbols reflected in their considerations on weaving immaterial objects. Additionally, the proportion of sign language gestures in the artwork mirrors the rhythmic movements of knitting needles, generating multiple interpretations that intertwine within the actions depicted.
